Serving Food at Community Events? Play It Safe.

Across the HKPR District Health Unit region, many community and special events serve food to the public—sometimes to thousands of people. While these events are a great way to bring people together, food that is not handled or prepared properly can lead to food-borne illnesses, which may cause serious health complications or even death.

To help protect public health, the Health Unit ensures that all food served at public events meets safety standards. This includes reviewing event plans, inspecting food vendors, and providing guidance on safe food handling practices.

Event organizers and food vendors must complete and submit a Special Event Food Vendor Application at least 14 days before the event. This allows time for the Health Unit to review your plans and ensure all safety requirements are met.

Vendor application forms and more information can be found on the HKPR District Health Unit website.

Help keep your event safe and enjoyable for everyone—submit your application early and follow safe food handling guidelines.
